- 23 August 2017
Supporters of football player Colin Kaepernick rallied outside the NFL office in New York and other cities across the country on August 23, 2017 to show their solidarity with him and to demand that he be signed by the start of the season next month. The player, who once took the 49ers to the Super Bowl, refused to stand for the national anthem to protest police brutality against black people. He opted out of his contract with the team in March and remains unsigned.
